DATE: October 25 at 4:30 p.m.
Walking through Barcelona today it is difficult to recall the feelings, sensations and events that took place in the streets of the city during the long and cruel Spanish civil war, a war that cost the lives of almost a million people, the exile of hundreds of thousands and Franco’s rise to power.
How did that war come about? Why did the military coup fail in Barcelona? Who were the anarchists who took control of the streets and institutions during the first months of the war? How was the revolution lived? What happened during the famous “May events”? When and why was the war lost?
We will try to answer some of these questions by following, in part, the steps of George Orwell and his book “Homage to Catalonia”, an (idealized) chronicle of his experiences in revolutionary Barcelona and on the Aragon front.
IMPORTANT: it is essential to wear an approved mask and respect the safety distance at all times.
