Enjoy the autumn and the “castañada” with an excursion to the heart of Montseny: the villages of Viladrau and Espinelves, famous for their huge chestnut trees, and a nice and easy circular walk from Viladrau to Castanyer de les nou branques.
One more year, we will enjoy the popular “castañada” in Viladrau with a nice, pleasant and gentle walk to the Castanyer de les nou branques, and a visit to the small but charming village of Espinelves, famous for its bird fair.
The first stop of the day will be in Espinelves, a small but beautiful village surrounded by lush forests and with one of the most popular Christmas fairs in Catalonia: the one of the bird.
Then we will move to the nearby Viladrau, where we will have the opportunity to discover the village, full of sumptuous houses (Viladrau was and still is an important destination of the Barcelona bourgeoisie) and stroll through its many fountains. After lunch we will enjoy a very nice and easy circular walk through the beautiful surroundings of Viladrau, presided by the majestic Matagalls, to the “Castanyer de les nou branques“.
During the walk I will take the opportunity to make an illustrated introduction to the exciting world of chestnuts and mushrooms.
A good opportunity to discover Viladrau and enjoy the autumn and chestnuts in the Natural Park of Montseny surrounded by impressive forests with beautiful views and spectacular summer houses.
THE PLAN:
- 8:30h: We meet at the Universitat square -main entrance to the UB- to take our private bus. Stop for breakfast during the journey.
- 11-12h: Arrival in Espinelves and walk through the town
- 12-12.15h: Bus to Viladrau
- 12.15-13.30h: Guided tour of the town and its fountains
- 13.30-15.30h: Free time to eat (I recommend the modernist hostel Can Bofill)
- 15.30-17.30h: Circular walk to the “Castanyer de les nou branques” and introduction to the exciting world of mushrooms
- 17.30h: Return bus, arriving in Barcelona between 7-7:30 p.m.
