DATE: January 29th at 8.30h
Discover the Roman and medieval Tarragona, visit the Roman quarry of El Mèdol, and walk along the impressive Roman aqueduct of Les Ferreres (also known as Pont del Diable), one of the best preserved Roman aqueducts in Europe, almost at the same level as the one in Segovia and the Pont du Gard, in Provence.
– GUIDED WALK THROUGH ROMAN AND MEDIEVAL TARRAGONA
Tarragona, pure Mediterranean, is undoubtedly one of the most monumental cities in Catalonia (with the permission of Barcelona and Girona). Its impressive Roman heritage – let’s not forget that Tarraco was the great capital of Hispania Citerior – is considered a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and its beautiful medieval quarter is one of the most beautiful and best preserved in Catalonia.
The guided tour will allow us to discover its rich Roman heritage (the circus, the amphitheater, the walls, the forum …) and stroll through the beautiful and monumental medieval center of the city, dominated by its beautiful Romanesque-Gothic cathedral.
– VISIT THE QUARRY OF EL MÈDOL AND WALK ALONG THE AQUEDUCT OF LES FERRERES
Before arriving in the city of Tarragona, we will have the opportunity to visit the impressive Roman quarry of “El Mèdol” and the no less impressive Roman aqueduct of “Les Ferreres”, also known as “El Pont del Diable”, a fragment of a long canal that brought water to the city from the Francolí river. It was built in the 1st century with large ashlars placed dry forming a double line of arches and is one of the best preserved Roman aqueducts in Europe.
