Enjoy Catalonia offers the opportunity to discover the vats – stone huts covered with tiles that were used to tread the grapes and make wine – of the Flaquer Valley and visit the medieval village of Mura and the Puig de la Balma, a spectacular 12th century farmhouse nestled and hung on the steep landing of a cliff.

– CIRCULAR WALK THROUGH THE FLAQUER VALLEY

A pleasant circular walk of 5.7km (2 hours) through the Flaquer Valley that will allow us to admire several sets of vats, small stone houses covered with tiles that were used to tread the grapes and make wine.

The good price of wines and spirits made the farmers of the area plant vineyards on the steepest slopes of the mountains and solve the problem of transporting the grape harvest and the need for homogeneous fermentation with the construction of vats and wine production at the foot of the vineyards. The irruption of phylloxera in the 1890s killed the vines and caused the vineyards to be abandoned. The terraces they occupied are today hidden by the pine forest.

Located in the mountainous conglomerate of Sant Llorenç del Munt, the old town of Mura preserves the charm of a splendid Middle Ages, with narrow and steep streets, stone huts and a beautiful Romanesque church, all framed by an enviable natural environment.

El Puig de la Balma is a spectacular 12th century farmhouse nestled and perched on the steep landing of a cliff, which serves as a farmhouse, restaurant, rural accommodation and a small but interesting museum of agricultural tools.
