A beautiful excursion to the lower part of the natural park of Montseny that combines a guided visit to the castle of Montsoriu, a guided walk in Breda and a two-hour hike up a wide and well marked wooded path to the castle. A good opportunity to enjoy the autumn in Monseny, the only biosphere reserve in Catalonia, and discover one of the most impressive Gothic castles in the area.
GUIDED VISIT TO THE CASTLE OF MONTSORIU
The Castell de Montsoriu is one of the most spectacular Gothic castles in Catalonia. It was built in the 10th century and enlarged in the 14th century. The castle is located in a strategic location, with an impressive panoramic view of this area of Montseny, the only Biosphere Reserve in Catalonia.
GUIDED WALK IN BREDA
Breda is a small town located in the eastern part of Montseny. Its historical heritage includes the impressive Romanesque bell tower of the old Benedictine monastery, as well as the church of Santa Maria, known as the cathedral of La Selva.
ASCENT TO THE CASTLE OF MONTSORIU FROM BREDA
A two-hour climb of easy to moderate level along a wide and well marked wooded path to the castle of Montsoriu, located at 640 meters above sea level.
THE PLAN
9h: We meet in Universitat square
10h: Arrival in Breda & breakfast/coffee
10.30-12.30h: Ascent to the Castell de Montsoriu
13-14.30h: Castle guided tour
14.30-15.30h: Time to eat (you have to bring a sandwich from home or buy it in Breda)
15.30-17h: Way back to Breda (downhill)
17-18h: Guided walk in Breda and/or beer
18: Return bus and arrival in Barcelona around 7:00 p.m. approx.
