“How beautiful is Badalona, in winter and in summer”, said the lyrics of the popular song by Manolo Escobar parodied by Joan Manuel Serrat. And the fact is that Badalona, the fourth city of Catalonia, is a lot of Badalona. To its rich historical heritage (it was founded by the Romans almost two thousand years ago), cultural and human (it has always been a city of alluvium), we must add a privileged location between the sea and the mountains, with almost 5 kilometers of beaches in the east and the Sierra de Marina in the west.
Strolling through the old town, known as Dalt de la Vila (because it is in the upper part of the town), we discover architectural gems such as the Romanesque church of Santa Maria, the Torre Vella or the Casa Jaume Botey, as well as medieval and Gothic streets such as Calle de la Costa, which open the way to the seafront. This, known as Baix a Mar (because it is in the lower area, the sea), is one of the best kept treasures of this town that houses the Pont del Petroli (‘Oil Bridge’) and the Anís del Mono factory.
