DATE: April 16 at 6 pm
Walking through Barcelona today it is difficult to recall the feelings, sensations and events that took place in the streets of the city during the long and cruel Spanish Civil War, a war that cost the lives of almost a million people, the exile of hundreds of thousands and the arrival to power of Franco.
How did the war come to be? Why did the military coup fail in Barcelona? Who were the anarchists who took control of the streets and institutions during the first months of the war? How was the revolution experienced? What happened during the famous “May events”? When and why was the war lost?
We will try to answer some of these questions following, in part, the steps of George Orwell and his book “Homage to Catalonia”, a chronicle (idealized) about his experiences in the revolutionary Barcelona and in the front of Aragon.
IMPORTANT: it is essential to wear an approved mask and to respect the safety distance at all times.
