Guinardó (Horta-Guinardó district) is a residential neighborhood of steep streets crowned by one of the main lungs of Barcelona: the Guinardó Park. The origin of the urban nucleus is the Mas Guinardó, a manor house from the 15th century, located on the Puig Cogoll, which allowed to control the plain of Barcelona. The roots of the area are entirely rural, with scattered farmhouses built on ancient Roman villas, vineyards, almond and orange trees and fields. The rural character of the neighborhood began to change at the end of the 19th century with the first urbanization plans, and in just three decades Guinardó was filled with housing blocks to become a densely populated residential neighborhood.
The neighborhood has many attractions, including the impressive modernist Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau, the Guinardó park, the Escola del Mar, several passages with centuries-old houses, old farmhouses, etc.
