The Provincial House of Maternity and Foundlings of Barcelona, located in the district of Les Corts, is an old hospital complex that began to be built in 1889 to accommodate mothers about to give birth and to raise abandoned children. It was a model institution in many aspects and the complex had all kinds of infrastructures: specific pavilions, sterilization room, operating rooms, baby washing and care room, mechanical washing of clothes, artificial solarium, incubator room, disinfection of baby bottles, etc. The construction of the complex lasted several decades and was financed by public funds and private donations.

Since 1998 the complex, which has beautiful gardens, has been open to the public, allowing neighbors and visitors to walk around and enjoy the grounds, a very beautiful set of modernist pavilions.

The neighborhood of Sant Ramon emerged a century ago to accommodate workers who worked in the textile factories in the area. Its remoteness from the center, low land prices and the availability of land meant that from the 1950s onwards, first-class sports facilities such as the Camp Nou, the Polo Club, the Turó, as well as the southern campus of the University of Barcelona, were installed in the area.
