The Marina del Port or old Marina de Sants, one of the most unknown and isolated neighborhoods of Barcelona, seems to be in permanent transformation. It owes its current form to the changes that the city underwent from the 1950s onwards, when housing developments began to be built to house the many industrial workers who settled in the Zona Franca. This is how the neighborhoods of Port, Can Clos, el Polvorí, Sant Cristòfol, Estrelles Altes… came into being. The arrival of thousands of people from other parts of the state turned the Marina de Port, a traditionally agricultural area inhabited since ancient times, into a residential neighborhood. But due to its isolation, the Marina del Port has developed a very special and different character from the rest of the city.

The Marina del Prat Vermell, the sector closest to the sea, will be converted in the coming years into a new residential neighborhood with the construction of more than 10,000 homes. But as long as this great transformation is not a reality, the Marina del Prat Vermell neighborhood will continue to be the least populated and strangest neighborhood in Barcelona.
