This two-day getaway will allow us to visit <strong>S\u00e8te<\/strong> , the &#8220;Little Venice&#8221; of France and birthplace of Paul Val\u00e9ry; enjoy a guided tour\u2014with a local guide\u2014of <strong>Montpellier<\/strong> , a beautiful university city and one of the most vibrant places in France; discover the mysterious <strong>Aigues-Mortes<\/strong> , nestled in the Camargue-Gardoise marshlands; and visit the old town of <strong>N\u00eemes<\/strong> , known as the &#8220;Little Rome&#8221; of France for its impressive Roman amphitheater and its spectacular temple, the famous Maison Carr\u00e9e.<\/p>\n<p>EAT AND WALK AROUND S\u00c8TE<\/p>\n<p>Nestled between the Mediterranean Sea and the Thau lagoon lies S\u00e8te. Its old port, canals, bridges, and buildings with beautiful, colorful facades have earned it the nickname &#8220;Venice of Languedoc.&#8221; This small city is the leading fishing port in the Mediterranean and a favorite destination for gourmets who appreciate seafood. It&#8217;s the perfect place to spend a few hours and savor its splendid seafood cuisine.<\/p>\n<p>GUIDED TOUR -WITH LOCAL GUIDE- AND OVERNIGHT IN MONTPELLIER<\/p>\n<p>Strolling through the ancient and distinctly Mediterranean city of Montpellier, the second largest in the region and birthplace of King James I of Aragon, is always a pleasure. In its historic center, a dense network of narrow streets of medieval origin, you can find everything from beautiful 17th- to 19th-century mansions to original examples of <em>street art.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>The <em>Place de la Com\u00e9die<\/em><\/strong> is the heart of the city, dividing the medieval quarter from the modern expansion. Wandering and getting lost in its surroundings is the best way to discover and enjoy old Montpellier: the <em>Place Saint Roch<\/em> , which boasts a spectacular trompe l&#8217;oeil mural on one of the surrounding facades; the magnificent <strong>Gothic <em>Saint Pierre<\/em> Cathedral<\/strong> ; or the Rue Foch, which leads to the triumphal arch built at the end of the 17th century to replace a city gate. Furthermore, Montpellier can boast of having the oldest medical school in the world and one of the most prestigious universities in France, where illustrious figures such as Nostradamus, Arnau de Vilanova, and Ramon Llull studied.<\/p>\n<p>In the modern part of Montpellier, which brings the city closer to the sea, we find the famous <strong>Antigone district<\/strong> , designed by the recently deceased <strong>Ricardo Bofill<\/strong> . Other new areas of Montpellier include <strong>the futuristic Odysseum and Port Marianne<\/strong> , which stands out for two very unique projects: the RBC Design Center furniture and accessories store, by Jean Nouvel, and the magnificent and colossal city hall building, also designed by Nouvel and the local architect Fran\u00e7ois Font\u00e8s.<\/p>\n<p>EXCURSION TO AIGUES-MORTES, THE BEST VIEWPOINT IN THE CAMARGE<\/p>\n<p>The medieval town of Aigues-Mortes was once France&#8217;s leading Mediterranean port. Located in the heart of the Camargue-du-Gard region, it resembles a true medieval fortress, with nearly two kilometers of walls, several fortified gates, twenty towers, and a distinctive sentry walk. The tallest tower in Aigues-Mortes, the Constance Tower, a former prison, offers a beautiful view of the vast Camargue marshes from its terrace.<\/p>\n<p>GUIDED TOUR OF NIMES, THE LITTLE ROME OF FRANCE<\/p>\n<p>The historic city of N\u00eemes is known for its spectacular historical heritage and its festive, southern atmosphere. The Roman amphitheater, with a capacity of 24,000 spectators, is one of the best-preserved in the world and still regularly hosts performances, most notably the famous Camargue bullfights. Another of the city&#8217;s star attractions is the Maison Carr\u00e9e (Square House), a splendid Roman temple from the late 1st century with columns topped by Corinthian capitals. N\u00eemes also boasts a small but picturesque old town and a beautiful romantic park: the Jardin de la Fontaine.
